A romantic anti-hero and a skirmish with the supernatural provide a programme of spiritual beauty. Tchaikovsky’s "Manfred" Symphony, a huge virtuoso orchestral showcase, based on Lord Byron’s radical poem, where given the choice of salvation, the anti-hero opts out.

New Zealand composer John Psathas who enjoyed great success with View from Olympus, and whose composition Luminous we featured earlier in the year, has composed his Marimba Concerto especially for Pedro Carneiro and Marc Taddei. Well-known New Zealand soprano, Patricia Wright will perform Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss, his last completed works inspired by the poems Im Abendrot (At Sunset) by Joseph von Eichendorff and Frühling (Spring), September, and Beim Schlafengehen (Going to Sleep) by Hermann Hesse.
