Jan Van den BergJan van den Berg has been Concert Master with the Christchurch Symphony since 1992 during which period he has been instrumental in the growth and artistic development.
Educated in the Netherlands, Jan gained his Soloist Diploma at the Amsterdam Conservatoire where he studied with Jo Juda, Flesch student and Concert Master of the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.
Jan’s international experience includes positions with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Concertmaster Cape Town Opera, Hong Kong Philharmonic, & Assoc CM Melbourne symphony, Pr violinist in the Sydney Opera Orchestra and has guested with many of the Australian & NZ Orchestra’s including the NZSO & Chamber orchestra.
Recognised as a fine and gifted soloist, chamber musician, and lecturer Jan has concertised all over Europe, S. Africa, Far East, Japan, Australia and NZ and was a participant in many important Festivals and a panel member of the preliminary Michael Hill International violin Competition.
Jan has also over many decades worked with many of the world finest conductors & soloists such as Jorge Bolet, Arthur Grumiaux, Ruciero Ricci, Joan Sutherland, Pavarotti,
Pierre Boulez, Frans Paul Decker, Sir William Southgate and many others to mention a few.
